The Editorial Web
Fashion moves fast. Web design often lags behind. Vanguard Runway is a concept piece exploring the intersection of High Fashion and Brutalist UI, stripping away the “app-like” feel of modern webs for something more print-inspired.
The Mission
Digital Magazine. To recreate the tactile authority of a high-end fashion magazine (Vogue, Dazed) within a browser viewport. The goal was to make the typography the protagonist, not just the container.
The Solution: Type-Driven Layout
We utilized Variable Fonts and Tailwind CSS to create a responsive editorial grid that adapts fluidly from mobile to desktop.
- Typography as Image: Using massive, screen-filling serif fonts to create negative space and structural tension.
- Inertial Scrolling: Implementing a custom smooth-scroll behavior to mimic the weight of turning a glossy page.
- Monochrome Impact: A strict black-and-white palette ensures that the photography pops with maximum intensity.
The Impact
A masterclass in restraint. Vanguard Runway demonstrates that with strong art direction, a simple tech stack can outshine complex 3D implementations. It is minimal, but loud.
